"And where do you think you're going?"
"I don’t have to answer to you.." he huffed, gazing up at the woman hovering above him and meddling into business she had no need to know.
"But if you MUST insist.. I’m going out for a walk. It’s cool outside and it feels good."
Luffy was ready to start drumming his fist against the door again, but further knocking became unnecessary as the apartment’s occupant appeared. Lowering his hand, he greeted the familiar face with a brighter-than-average smile.
"Hey, Zoro!" he parroted, and proceeded to welcome himself inside the apartment room without question, brushing past the taller male without otherwise waiting for an invitation (be it out of habit or poor mannerisms or a combination of the two). "Did’ja lose your phone again? You’re pretty good at doing that, huh?" Despite the fact that none of his calls and text messages had received responses as of recent, there were no undertones in Luffy’s voice that would suggest he was upset about the matter; rather, he’d resorted right back to his usual happy-go-lucky disposition from the moment his friend had answered the door.
Zoro was here in front of him and Luffy was genuinely happy to see him- simple as that.
"Anyways," he’d already kicked off his sandals after walking a short ways past the doorway, "Wanna hang out today?"
Before Zoro could invite him in, Luffy took it upon himself to save him the trouble. That was nothing out of the ordinary. He was just an innocent kid.
He’d taken to keeping himself from speaking to Luffy when he got too nervous, sometimes it was intentional and sometimes not. When Luffy would ask, he’d say he lost his phone and they boy simply believed him.
"Y-Yeah, I lost it.." he lied, as he locked the door, figuring Luffy was going to be here awhile. He didn’t have work today so he was out of luck for an excuse. Even if he did, Luffy would probably tag along.
"I didn’t have a whole lot planned.. Sure we can hang out." he gave a small nod, stuffing his hands in his pockets and walking closer to the object of his affection.
Will you marry me ?
"Not sure you’re my type, anon."
"And I’m saying you should love me WAY more! I’m your captain!”
"You should know how much I care about you, idiot.."

It was half past four in the afternoon when Luffy knocked on the door of his best friend’s apartment. Four days without hearing from the green haired man had prompted his unannounced visit. He and Zoro had an unspoken routine of hanging out more often than not during the week; if not physically dropping by one or the other’s place, they would at least chat over the phone. But for the past few days it was as if his friend had dropped completely off the radar, and though he knew this not to be entirely true—he knew Zoro would never up and leave without telling him—there was still a small restlessness factor that had spurred Luffy into taking action himself. He gave three prompt knocks to announce his [unplanned] arrival, followed by two more when impatience got the better of him.
"Zooorrrooo! It’s me! "
Things were getting harder and harder to deal with and Zoro was starting to take it out on himself. There had always been that little feeling inside, that expanded in Luffy’s presence and left the guitarists heart beating faster. Zoro had never had a friend this close to him before, besides Johnny and Yosaku, and well they were idiots— So he did his best to sum the feeling up to that. He’d made a new friend. They were close. This was what having a friend was like and the feelings that came with it.
Then he started dreaming about kissing Luffy.
The dream itself isn’t what made his eyes wide as he shot out of bed.. it was how much he liked it. It was the realization that, deep down, that’s what he really wanted.
After that, everything went to hell..
Anytime he and Luffy were together, Zoro would catch himself laughing at the younger boy’s choice of words or decisions or plans. He couldn’t control the heat that rose in his cheeks at his smile or when he dragged him along places or got too close to his body. It was confusing and scary— how much he was enjoying being with the other… how much he wanted to hold their hand.
No amount of reminding himself that Luffy was different would fix it. He didn’t seem like— the dating type, or the liking ANYONE type. He was Luffy and he was different and special and.. perfect.
Zoro couldn’t ruin that.
Simple things like calling and texting became overwhelming.. He’d have mini panic attacks about if Luffy found out and impossible scenarios that would unfold from it. He felt like an idiot. He was being ridiculous!
It had been a few days since he talked to the other, and even that was weighing on him. Luffy would text him, but he wouldn’t reply. He had to figure out a way to word his feelings and talk to him.. instead of trying to hide them.
The knock on the door was surprising, especially since he knew his roommates wouldn’t be back home till later tonight. Then he heard his name being shouted..
Scrambling to his feet, Zoro ran to the front of the apartment and opened the door, knowing who it was. “H-Hey, Luffy.”
Yes…Yes I did. Stop leaving me. No I hate you…I-idiot…”
"You’re hurting my feelings, baby."
"He doesn’t call he doesn’t write—so rude.."
"Awe.. does the little fireball miss me?"
